Hello, Below is Charlies informal report on the meeting held on April 3rd.  You could use this blog to tell one another what you have been doing in connection with the KairosAction Movement.

Dear Peacemakers,

A blessed Easter Saturday to you. I have the sense that this is the longest of the Three Days as we wait between the Cross and the day of resurrection when God will make all things new. Tomorrow we shall celebrate the anticipation of that day. May it be a day of hope and joy for all of you.

Below is an informal record of the April 3 meeting of the steering committee. I send them to you as a way for us to keep connected with one another. It is our plan to meet bi-monthly as a steering committee.

We are encouraged by the fact that several local communities of support are emerging. I am confident that such face-to-face gatherings will give each of us the imagination, inspiration and accountability that will sustain our call to peacemaking.

Several of us have been privileged to make presentations in congregations and have found that many people ready to discuss and even to act upon the call to discipleship of peacemaking. Please contact us if you would like to have someone come to lead such a discussion in your congregation/community.

Another very exciting development is the discovery of what many of you are doing in your own communities. Tom Witt has developed a set of questions for discussion in the worship committee of his congregation around the issue of what it means when we pray for our troops during worship. This is a significant way to help people of faith engage a number of important questions and could lead to some very interesting and productive discussions. I have asked Tom for permission to forward his discussion questions to those who might find them helpful.

It is my judgment that this is a significant way in which KairosAction might be helpful. We do not believe that we need to produce resources. There is an abundance of excellent work already being done. We could serve as the place where people can get connected with one another.

Finally, we need some help

As you will see in what follows, Holden Village is graciously extending time during their summer program each week for a KairosAction presentation. If you are going to be in the Village sometime this summer, would you consider being a part of this work? Contact me for information about dates and expectations.

Further, we are making arrangements to have tables at three ELCA Synod Assemblies and possibly even at some non-Lutheran gatherings. Could you help out by staffing one of the KairosAction tables for a period of time at an Assembly/gathering? Please contact me and we’ll set up the schedules.

Also, you’ll see that we are planning to have two events this year in the Puget Sound area. The first will be a potluck held on Sunday, June 10 (possibly at University Lutheran Church in Seattle) from 5-7 PM. This is intended to be a time of sharing with one another about how things are going in our own peacemaking work and how we can be mutually helpful to one another.

The second is what we hope will become an annual event: an All Saints Worship Service.

Salama,

Charlie
